The Pohutukawa tree is a native tree.Long before this, the tree attracted the fascination of Maori and has continually served as a source of cultural inspiration in legends and religious tradition.One tree in particular holds great significance for Maori.
The pohutukawas hard strong timber was used for ship-building, and parts of the tree were also used medicinally by the Maori.
